Marjorie Taylor Greene is at it again, dishing out unfounded conspiracy theories. Greene constantly stirs the pot, claiming widespread election fraud, and promoting the miso-gynistic QAnon belief that Hillary Clinton leads a pedophile ring in a pizza restaurant, though she has barley any proof.
Last week, while base-lessly noodling, Greene accused House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of employing the Capitol Police to spy on members of congress, information she says she obtained in a leek, and many Washington insiders say she’s been stewing for days.
Greene took to Twitter, and while attempting to curry favor with her alt-right base, claimed the following - “Pelosi’s gazpacho police spying on members of Congress, spying on the legislative work that we do, spying on our staff and spying on American citizens that want to come talk to their representatives.”
While this claim is ludicrous, it was quickly pointed out, though not pho sure, that Greene apparently mistook the word “gazpacho” - a traditional Spanish soup served cold - for “Gestapo” - the secret police force of Nazi Germany.
This type of rhetoric is common for Greene, whom many view as an uninformed chowderhead. As evidence of this, instead of laughing off her mistake, Greene decided to partake in some patented whataboutism that appears to be common among Republican members of broth the house and senate.
Greene really ladled out the insults, which one observer described as both “hot and sour.”
“Some of us slip up a word every now and then,” she tweeted, “but Joe Biden doesn’t even know the words coming out of his mouth practically all the time.”
Many people, even in Greene’s own party, feel its time for her to put this type of talk on the back-burner, though Greene herself thinks “This is all just a Crock.”
After she simmered down, Greene attempted to downplay the fact that she is functionally illiterate and acted like she was in on the joke, using a play of “ghoulash” in place of “gulag.”
There’s something to be gleaned from Greene’s handling of this situation. She made a mistake, a fairly laughable one, and then used the opportunity to promote the well-worn Republican talking point that Joe Biden is senile.
The fact that she is deflecting means she is likely either embarrassed by the error, or just extremely insecure in her use of the English language.
Further, when you screw something up you have two options: You can laugh at yourself, or yell at everyone. But, once you yell at everyone, you then lose the privilege to laugh at yourself.
You cannot be in on the joke at that point, because everyone is well aware that it bothers you. This may be the basic premise of all of those Real Housewives shows.
It’s also entirely possible Greene thinks gazpacho, or anything vaguely Hispanic sounding, is of Mexican origin, and she’s doing a little dog-whistling as she’s prone to do.
Whatever the case, she’s a total meatball. This microcosm can really shine some light onto her erratic behavior, and personally I think the ramen and women of America deserve better.
This made me laugh. I really enjoyed the play on words.
